Why we created afieldish
It started with a few bad hikes.
When we first started hiking together, we didn't really know what we were doing.
On our first hike, Jeremy carried a water bottle in his hand for hours. On the next, we decided we didn't need it — and ended up finishing the hike thirsty.
A few hikes later, a small branch cut Taira's ankle.
We had no first-aid kit, so we rinsed the cut with water from our bottle and kept walking on it. By the time we got back to the car, it had started to sting a lot more than it should have.
We laughed about it, but eventually we asked ourselves: Maybe we should actually get prepared.
The problem was, figuring out how to prepare felt like its own hike — hours of research, gear reviews that all disagreed with each other, and no clear answer for what a beginner actually needs.
So we created afieldish.
A simple starting point for people who want to get outside, but don't want to become experts just to take their first hike.
That's the kit we wish we'd had on our first hike.
Because getting outside shouldn't feel complicated.
